Misfortune for Okubo at Mugello

The Avant Ajo MotoE rider experiences a premature end to the second race of Round 3 after a crash at the start

The second race of the third round of the 2022 FIM MotoE World Cup was held at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello on Sunday. Luck was not on Hikari Okubo’s side this time, as he suffered a big crash early in the race and could not re-join. Despite the setback, the Avant Ajo MotoE rider leaves Mugello with points he earned on Saturday, when he finished 11th in Race 1.

He made a good start from the fourth row of the grid, and was pushing hard to climb up the order and catch those at the front. However, on the last sector of the first lap the Japanese rider suffered a heavy highside. After the incident, he was unable to return to the track to finish the race.

Okubo occupies sixth position in the FIM MotoE World Cup with 52 points. The fourth round of the series will be in the Netherlands from June 24 to 26.

#78 HIKARI OKUBO

“I’m fine after the crash. Obviously, it was painful, and it’s a bit hard to comment about the race. I tried to follow the fastest riders but I was too aggressive. This has been the most difficult weekend in my MotoE career. Now we have one month to rest and I will go to Japan to relax and come back stronger.”
