Veijer finishes eighth at Red Bull Ring for best result of the year
17/08/2025The Dutchman has a great race, finishing just two seconds off the podium. Dani Muñoz also takes his best result in Moto2 with 14th.
Red Bull KTM Ajo’s home race in Austria ended well for the team, with the best results of the season to date for both Collin Veijer and Daniel Muñoz. The Dutch rider managed to stay close to the front group throughout the race, eventually claiming eighth, just two seconds off third place. Meanwhile, replacement rider Muñoz had some great final laps, securing 14th and two points.
There was a great start for both of them, with Veijer holding his grid position of ninth and Muñoz rising from 16th to 12th.
Veijer had not only achieved his best Q2 result of the season on Saturday, but he kept it throughout the opening laps. After the first few times around the Red Bull Ring, however, the Dutchman was unable to keep up with the leading four riders, albeit demonstrating speed and pace in equal measure. With the first third of the race completed, Veijer was up to eighth place after the retirement of Moto2 World Championship leader Manuel Gonzalez. One second off seventh place and another second ahead of ninth, he kept up his pace until the final stretch, where he was able to catch up with the group fighting for third. Veijer ended the race in eighth, two seconds off the podium and +7.729 behind the race winner -making it the closest such gap since he became a Moto2 rider. He now has 21 points and is 19th in the overall standings.
Muñoz kept up a good pace during the first and second laps, but mistakes while lying deep in the main group dropped him to 18th. With the first third of the race completed, the Spaniard stabilised his spot in the group fighting for 16th place, where he remained until the final three laps. Benefitting from tyre wear for his rivals, he broke away from his direct rivals and crossed the line alone in 14th place. It was his best result in the World Championship, surpassing the 15th position he achieved at the Aragon GP, and earned 2 points. Muñoz now has 3 points to his name, placing him 29th in the overall standings.
With this great result for Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 team at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, Collin Veijer and Daniel Muñoz close out the home race for KTM with good points for the team standings, where they remain seventh with 124 points. The next stop for the World Championship is Round 14, next week at the new Balaton Park circuit in Hungary from August 22nd to 24th.

NIKLAS AJO – Team Manager
“I would say that in Moto2 the weekend was quite positive, considering the circumstances and the unfortunate injury to Deniz at the start of the week. In general, since Friday, both riders adapted very well to the track, and they were competitive from the first laps. Especially Collin, who made the biggest step forward since the beginning of the season. He was very consistent during all the Practices and also qualified in 9th, coming through Q1. Today he was very competitive during all the race, especially the last part, so we’re very happy about his performance. Dani also had a very competitive weekend at a track he hasn’t been to before with a Moto2 bike. He managed to improve a lot in every practice, especially yesterday in Qualifying, which was very impressive. Today in the race, maybe he was missing a little bit in the beginning, but as soon as he passed some riders, he managed to reach the points, so we’re very happy with him and his potential.”#95 COLLIN VEIJER
I’m very happy about all we did today. We took a big step again and the pace was very good. We need to find something more on the first lap, but overall, I’m very happy with how the weekend went. Let’s try to keep this momentum for the next few race weekends, and let’s try also to find something in the first part of the race, where we suffer a little bit to keep position. I want to say thank you to all my team and everybody who is supporting me at every moment. See you next week in Hungary, where we will try to have a good weekend again
#17 DANIEL MUÑOZ
I’m very happy with the result, and with the performance we’ve shown throughout the weekend. We lacked some pace on the opening laps, but we were able to make up ground in the second half of the race. I’m very grateful to the entire team for their hard work and the opportunity, as we’ve been able to take a step forward over the three days, both in terms of riding and understanding the bike. I think we’re gradually getting a better understanding of how this class
