New opportunity for Veijer and Muñoz in Sepang

22/10/2025

The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 duo aim to score points this weekend at the Malaysian GP and finish the overseas on a high note.

Collin Veijer and Daniel Muñoz are targeting a thirteenth consecutive points-scoring race for Red Bull KTM Ajo this weekend, as the Moto2 World Championship heads to Sepang for the Malaysian Grand Prix. The round completes the action outside of Europe for 2025, and concludes the penultimate double-header of the year as well.

Veijer continues to make solid strides in the final part of the season, and six of the last seven races have seen him place in the points. The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider also has fond memories of Malaysia, where from Pole Position he achieved his first victory in 2023, breaking a 33-year drought for the Netherlands for Grand Prix wins. Last year he was fifth in the race, less than a second from victory. Last week in Australia, the Dutchman showed a very competitive pace in the final stretch of the race, running a pace similar to that of the leading group, but a position far on the grid meant he was unable to challenge for the win. He was 12th at Phillip Island, and has his sights on a better qualifying showing this Saturday. Veijer currently has 57 points, occupying 19th place overall.

Muñoz continues to stand in for Deniz Öncü, who could return to action before the end of the season but will sit out the Malaysian round. For the Spaniard, Sepang presents another new challenge of an unfamiliar track, but he will attempt to use advice from his teammate and early track time to get well acquainted with the circuit. After three Grands Prix outside the Top 15, due to a crash in Japan and 17th and 21st places in Indonesia and Australia, Muñoz is looking to get back in the points this weekend. Currently, he is 22nd in the overall standings with 23 points.

With 180 points, Red Bull KTM Ajo remain eighth in the Team standings, but close to seventh place, and arrives to a circuit where they have always achieved great results. Since 2015, they have five victories and three additional podium finishes in only eight editions placed at Sepang. The victories went to Johann Zarco (2015 and 2016), Miguel Oliveira (2017), Brad Binder (2019), and Celestino Vietti (2024), whilst Binder in 2017, Oliveira in 2018, and Pedro Acosta in 2023 all finished second.

With the aim of continuing to score points for the team for another consecutive weekend, Veijer and Muñoz arrives to Sepang confident in their potential on the Malaysian track.  Both will have their first Free Practice session on Friday at 9:50 a.m. (local time), while the 17-lap Moto2 race will be held on Sunday at 1:15 p.m.

#95 COLLIN VEIJER

“We’re ready for another weekend! It’s our last double-header outside of Europe coming to a close, and I’m very excited to be back in Malaysia. Phillip Island wasn’t too bad for us, so we need to focus now on what we have to do here in Sepang. It’s important for us to work hard on Friday, to achieve a good grid position and also do it well on the first few laps of the race, so we’ll try to put all of that together. The weather will be interesting once again, so we shall see what happens. I achieved my first World Championship win in Sepang, so I’m very happy to be back at the scene of such a great memory.”

#17 DANIEL MUÑOZ

“I’m very happy to be able to experience another new circuit and country as are Sepang and Malaysia. Sepang is a track that I’ve always seen in other competitions and found races there very fun to watch, so I’m motivated to be able to race there for the first time. I’m really looking forward to getting started and fighting for points again, so we’re going to work hard from the start to adapt as quickly as possible and take advantage of all the track time available. We will try to come back to Europe with a good result to end my first overseas.”
