12/06/2019

The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 rider is looking forward to the Catalan Grand Prix, the seventh round of the World Championship.

The 2019 season continues this week with the World Championship heading to Spain for the Catalan Grand Prix. Can Öncü will check in at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit, where he completed two positive days of private testing three weeks ago. Returning to the Spanish venue, the Turkish rider aims to keep making progress and learning with the Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 team.

In the last round, Can Öncü put in a solid performance at the Italian Grand Prix, with the 15-year-old rookie finishing just 0.110s off the points, having made up 13 positions in the race. Last year, the talented youngster was also on the comeback trail in the FIM CEV in Barcelona, scoring points in both of the FIM Moto3 Junior World Championship races there, after starting from the rear of the grid.

The 21-lap Catalan GP will start on Sunday, 16th June at 11 am (local time). The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 team have podium pedigree at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit, having taken victory there with Luis Salom – in 2013 – as well as two second place finishes, with Sandro Cortese – in 2012 – and Brad Binder – in 2016.

“We need to continue working in the same way as we did at the last Grand Prix, where we managed to take further steps forward and finish very close to the points. Our goal is to keep improving session by session, never standing still or missing the opportunity to learn. If we do things well then, this weekend we can be fighting for a place in the top 15. Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit is a track where I’ve already raced in the FIM CEV last year, so we know we can do a good job there.”
