The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 riders are in top form for the Portuguese Grand Prix, the third round of the 2021 season.

The Moto2 World Championship touches down in Europe this weekend, with the Portuguese Grand Prix in Portimao. Red Bull KTM Ajo come into Round 3 off the back of a successful Doha GP a fortnight ago, in which Remy Gardner and Raul Fernandez were both on the podium, and the duo enjoyed a great start to the year. Their early results in the 2021 campaign have taken the team to the top spot of the Moto2 Teams World Championship standings.

Remy Gardner earned two second place finishes from as many races this year, and now attempts to carry his good pace and consistency in Qatar over to Portimao. The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 rider was the contest winner in 2020 at the Portuguese track, earning his first victory on the world stage. The Australian is currently second in the standings with 40 points.

Fernandez achieved his first Moto2 podium finish by placing third at the Doha Grand Prix, in only his second appearance in the class. After the success in Qatar, the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider is very motivated for his return to the Algarve International Circuit, the scene of a brilliant win for him in Moto3 last year by almost 6 seconds. The Spaniard is third in the World Championship with 27 points.

The 23-lap Moto2 Portuguese Grand Prix is scheduled for Sunday at 2:30 PM local time, following the MotoGP race.

87 REMY GARDNER

“We can look very positively at the first two races of the season. I feel comfortable with the team and we are doing a great job together. We have a long season ahead, but starting 2021 with two podiums is certainly a good thing.
I come into the Portuguese Grand Prix with great expectations, since it was there that I achieved my first World Championship victory last year. Our goal will be to finish the contest with as many points as possible and try to fight to place in the Top 3. Portimao is a track that I really like, and the layout is like a roller coaster; it’s a spectacular circuit for riders, but also provides a great show for the spectators.”

25 RAUL FERNANDEZ

“The first two races of the year were very good for us. This is my first season in the class and I feel like I’m learning something new all the time. I did not expect to be on the podium in Qatar, but it’s something that has given me a lot of confidence. However, our goal is still to make progress and take things slowly. We don’t want to set any position as a target; we want to have fun every time we go out on track. If we achieve this, then the results will come.
I have great memories of the circuit, since last year I won there in Moto3. I hope to enjoy this Grand Prix, I am going there with great enthusiasm and motivation.”
