Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 complete solid qualifying at Dutch GP

24/06/2023

Pedro Acosta will start from sixth position and Albert Arenas in eighth.

Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 team ended the second day of the Dutch GP with a good feeling. Both Pedro Acosta and Albert Arenas improved compared to Friday and will start from the second and third row of the grid, respectively.

Practice 3 allowed them to make their final adjustments before qualifying. The track conditions were perfect for both Acosta and Arenas to almost immediately lower their Friday times. Acosta showed his great ability to adapt and was one of the fastest men in the session, finishing second with a time of 1:36.250, achieved on his eleventh lap of 15. Arenas found a good feeling with his KTM at the Dutch circuit, placing in tenth position thanks to his 1:36.631 lap on his tenth attempt. With these results, both riders made the cut to go directly into Q2.

Moto2 qualifying took place in the afternoon under relatively high temperatures. Acosta focused on his objective of reaching the first two rows of the grid, in order to be able to have a good performance on Sunday. The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider maintained a solid pace and felt comfortable, clocking the sixth fastest time in qualifying -and having a quicker last lap cancelled. Acosta will start from the second row thanks to his 1:36.560 time, set on his fifth lap of nine. Arenas looked to increase his speed and try to set a hot lap, although the large number of riders on track and yellow flags have made the final stretch of qualifying difficult for him to do so. He nevertheless enjoyed one of his best results this season and will start from eighth position after setting a time of 1:36.603.

The 22-laps Moto2 race will take place on Sunday at 12:15 PM local time at the TT Circuit Assen.

#37 PEDRO ACOSTA

We have to be happy with today’s result because our objective this year is to be on either the front or second row. Last year it was something we suffered a lot with on Saturdays. Tomorrow we expect a hotter day and I think that in those conditions we can be competitive and, in addition, manage our tyres well. We have to stay focused, try to ride our own race and steadily keep picking up points.

#75 ALBERT ARENAS

Today I was very focused on working lap by lap, and the speed is coming. In qualifying I was not able to put together a complete hot lap, which was a pity, because we could have started from higher up on the grid. We know we can be fast, so this afternoon we’ll continue working on some things to ride better tomorrow and have a solid race.
