Hungary concludes double-header for Veijer and Rueda

03/06/2026

Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 visit Balaton Park after a positive race in Italy last weekend.

Collin Veijer and Jose Antonio Rueda arrive at the Balaton Park circuit this weekend for the Hungarian Grand Prix, after a round in Italy where both Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 riders finished in the points together for the first time in 2026. The duo now seek to build on that success at a track with very different characteristics from those they encountered last time out.

Veijer is coming off an important result for his confidence. After two races without scoring points in France and Catalonia, he capped off a very complete weekend in Italy with a 9th place finish. He had secured fifth on the grid prior to that, and his Top 10 result was his fourth in seven races. Now he returns to a circuit that holds great memories for him: Balaton Park. Last year, in the inaugural Moto2 Grand Prix at the Hungarian track, he secured fifth place on the grid, his best Q2 result up to that point. He then followed that up with a fifth place finish in the race, just one second shy of the winner. Veijer is looking to improve on last year’s performance and move up the overall standings, in which he currently sits tenth with 36.5 points.

Rueda is on an upward trajectory. After his best Grand Prix result to date in Barcelona -9th on the grid and 12th in the race- he demonstrated consistency in Italy under extremely hot conditions. Despite failing to make it into Q2, he staged a remarkable comeback during the race, gaining eight places and scoring points for the third time this season. Rueda competed in the Moto3 Grand Prix in Hungary last year, qualifying eighth and finishing fifth, battling for the win until the very end. With eight points, he sits 20th in the overall standings and once again leads the Rookie of the Year ranking.

With the aim of repeating last Sunday’s success and securing double points with Collin and Jose Antonio, Red Bull KTM Ajo have 44.5 points in the Moto2 Teams standings, where they are in tenth place. Last year at Balaton Park, the Dutchman finished fifth, with Dani Muñoz in 20th.

The Hungarian Grand Prix will begin at 9:50 a.m. (local time) on Friday with FP1. The 22-lap race will take place on Sunday at 12:15 p.m.

#95 COLLIN VEIJER

“After a decent weekend in Italy, now we go on to the HungarianGP and we’ll see if we can improve more again. We needed a ‘normal’ Grand Prix like what we had at Mugello, so we will build on that at this next round. Balaton Park is a track we enjoyed a lot last year, so it’s nice to be back here. I like the layout and we have fond memories from both the Saturday and Sunday here, achieving my best race result from the start of the 2025 season to then, so I’m confidently looking forward to the weekend.”

#98 JOSE ANTONIO RUEDA

“After a positive but somewhat tricky weekend in Italy, we’ve reset and are starting from scratch again in Hungary. We know our strengths and areas where we have the most room for improvement, so we’ll try to turn things around. Balaton Park is a very different circuit from Mugello, much narrower, and we’ll also have to work hard to adapt to it with the Moto2 bike. We’re eager to get started and gradually take steps forward to be as competitive as possible in the race.”
