Veijer returns alongside Rueda for Indonesian Grand Prix

07/10/2026

Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 will field their regular lineup at Mandalika, with Collin Veijer back from a left collarbone injury and Jose Antonio Rueda in great form.

Collin Veijer and Jose Antonio Rueda are reunited this weekend at the Indonesian Grand Prix, as Red Bull KTM Ajo field their full regular lineup at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit. Veijer sat out the Japanese Grand Prix due to a left collarbone fracture sustained during Free Practice 1 in Austria, and was replaced by Milan Pawelec, but is now back available after a fast but safe recovery process. Before starting the Grand Prix, the Dutchman will need to pass a medical check in the circuit, before being declared fit to take part in FP1 on Friday morning. Rueda took another step forward at Motegi, finishing in the Top 10 for the third time this season.

Veijer’s comeback arrives just three weeks after his crash during Free Practice 1 at the Austrian Grand Prix. The Dutchman underwent successful surgery in Barcelona on September 23rd to treat the left collarbone fracture, and with the swift turnaround his aim will be to gradually regain his feel for the Moto2 bike. Prior to the injury, he was enjoying one of his best spells of the season, having secured second place at Misano -equalling his best result in the class- and also battling for the podium at MotorLand. With two podiums and a Pole Position to his name this season, Veijer currently sits tenth in the overall standings with 75.5 points. Mandalika is also a circuit where he performed well during his rookie Moto2 season: In 2025, he qualified seventh and finished eighth there, one of his best results of that campaign. In Moto3, he qualified on the front row for both editions he contested, finishing fourth in 2023 and crashing out in 2024 while leading the race.

Rueda arrives in Indonesia off his best result since the return from the summer break. The Spaniard made it directly into Q2 for the second consecutive round and, after starting from fifteenth place, fought his way up to tenth in the race. The six points he scored at Motegi bring his total to 37, allowing him to extend his lead in the Rookie of the Year ranking to 14 points over Luca Lunetta. Rueda is returning to the scene of one of the most special circuits of his career: Exactly one year ago, he won the Moto3 Indonesian Grand Prix and mathematically clinched the Moto3 World Championship in the process. In his first outing at Mandalika on a Moto2 bike, Rueda will aim to use that knowledge and his fond memories of the track to maintain the progress shown in recent rounds.

After a good weekend in Japan, Red Bull KTM Ajo are tenth in the Team standings with a total of 112.5 points. Their biggest success to date in Mandalika was in 2023, when Pedro Acosta claimed victory there while fighting for his Moto2 World Title.

The Indonesian Grand Prix kicks off this coming Friday at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit at 9:50 a.m. (local time) with Free Practice 1. Sunday’s 22-lap race will take place at 1:15 p.m., one hour later than we’re used for the intermediate class.

#95 COLLIN VEIJER

“I’m very happy to be returning to the paddock. I’d been looking forward to traveling to Asia and being back with my team, so I’m really eager to get back into the day-to-day routine with them. I have fond memories of Mandalika and I really like the layout, so we’ll try to enjoy ourselves and put in a strong performance for our return to racing. My recovery has gone very well, so we’re going to give it our all, but we’ll take steady steps and avoid rushing things too soon. We’re at a crucial point in the season, and it’s vital to finish the year on a high note.”

#98 JOSE ANTONIO RUEDA

“We’re coming off a good result in Japan, and now it’s time to visit a country where I have amazing memories from last year. I won my first World Championship there, and I did it with a race win, which makes it even more special. Mandalika is a fun circuit in an incredible location, so we’ll try to enjoy the experience and give it our all to secure another great result. We’re reaching a decisive part of the year, so every little helps for us to arrive even stronger for the final races back in Europe.”
