Italian GP begins a new Moto3 double-header

27/05/2026

Alvaro Carpe and Brian Uriarte arrive in Mugello having had a rest last week and with the batteries recharged for the seventh Grand Prix of the season.

Red Bull KTM Ajo return to action for a run of consecutive race weekends, encompassing rounds in Italy and Hungary. Alvaro Carpe and Brian Uriarte arrive at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello off the back of a great Sunday in Barcelona just ten days ago, as the season continues to heat up. With summer just around the corner, both want to keep the team’s momentum over the five remaining races before the mid-season break.

Carpe has some unfinished business at the Italian Grand Prix, as last season he took his first Pole Position at Mugello and only missed out on his first victory in the series by 6 thousandths of a second. He had another runner-up spot a fortnight ago at this season’s Catalan GP, less than a tenth shy of victory after a spectacular comeback through the field. The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 rider knows this weekend’s venue well, having finished third in both Red Bull Rookies Cup races he contested in his title-winning year in 2024 before reaching World Championship level. Currently, after six races in the 2026 campaign, Carpe is third in the overall standings with 73 points.

Uriarte also comes into the Italian round off a very positive Catalan Grand Prix. The Red Bull KTM Ajo rookie qualified on the front row of the grid for the first time, and also came closer than ever to his first podium and victory, placing fourth, just a tenth of a second behind the winner. He had led the way for ten laps of the race, showing more pace than anyone else on the class. This weekend he returns to Italy, where he has two second-place finishes from 2024 in the Red Bull Rookies Cup -just in front of his present teammate. In Mugello, Uriarte has the chance to increase his consecutive streak inside the points, which is now in six, from Thailand to Barcelona. The Spaniard is ninth in the overall standings with 42 points.

Red Bull KTM Ajo are third in the Team standings with 115 points, and in recent seasons, have achieved two victories and three podium finishes at the Italian Grand Prix. The wins went to Miguel Oliveira (2015) and Brad Binder (2016), with second places for Jaume Masia (2021), Deniz Öncü (2023), and Carpe himself (2025).

The #ItalianGP will begin on Friday at 9 a.m. (local time) with the first Moto3 Free Practice session. The 17-lap race will take place at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

#83 ALVARO CARPE

“Mugello is a circuit we have very fond memories of from last year, both on Saturday and Sunday, so we’re going to try to at least match what we achieved in my rookie season. We’re coming in with confidence, after finishing a tricky weekend in Barcelona in the best possible way, so we need to perform at our best here as well. We’ll try to take things session by session, to get a feel for the track and gather data without making mistakes that could hurt us for the rest of the Grand Prix. I’m sure we can do well and also enjoy ourselves a lot, so we’re going to try to do that from start to finish at a round that’s always spectacular.”

#51 BRIAN URIARTE

“Last week we showed we can fight with the frontrunners, so now it’s time to prove that it was not just a one-off. We’re working well, the team are helping me a lot to make my adaptation easier, so we’ll see what we can achieve in Italy. We learned a lot from all the situations in Barcelona, so we’re going to try to build on that and improve on our current best result of fourth place. Mugello is a spectacular circuit, so we’re going to try to enjoy it to the fullest and get a good result to start the double-header in the best possible way.”
