Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 rider receives operation in Barcelona to treat an injury suffered in training. Raul Fernandez will stand in for him at the German GP.

Darryn Binder underwent surgery at midday on Friday in the Hospital Universitario Dexeus (Barcelona) after breaking his right clavicle yesterday afternoon when training supermotard. The operation, which lasted 120 minutes, went satisfactorily under the guidance of the Head Of Upper Extremities Team at the hospital, Doctor Xavier Mir. The South African had the displaced collarbone fracture operated on with an open reduction and internal fixation, as a titanium plate secured by 6 screws was put in.

The South African, who will remain in the hospital for 24 hours, will begin rehabilitation as soon as possible, although participating at the next Moto3 World Championship round next week in Germany has been ruled out. Binder will thus have over three weeks’ recovery time before the series returns on August 5th at Brno.

The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 team will run young Spanish rider Raul Fernandez at Sachsenring as a stand-in rider. The 17 year old rides for KTM in the FIM CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship.
