Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 rider was in the fight for the podium throughout the race in Sepang.

Darryn Binder finished the flyaway rounds with another great result in Malaysia, taking seventh position after fighting for the podium until the very last lap. The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 rider was once again a protagonist in the lead group, continuing his great form in the final stage of the season. This is the fourth Top 10 of the season for the South African.

Starting from eleventh place on the grid, Binder had a scare on the first corner, overcoming the near miss and completing the first lap in fourth position. From that moment on, riding on a track which still had damp patches, he was part of the large lead group of more than 15 riders and led the race at various times. On the last 4 laps Binder battled for second and third right up to the finish line, eventually taking the chequered flag in seventh position -less than half a second off the podium.

Earning 9 points today, Darryn Binder gained two positions in the overall standings and is now seventeenth with 57 points. The South African will try to improve this position in two weeks’ time, when the 2018 Moto3 World Championship reaches its grand finale in Valencia on November 18th.

“Today’s race in Sepang was good. We had not ridden a lot in the dry and at the time the race began there were still wet patches, so we had to be careful on the first few laps. At the same time, I didn’t want to be too cautious and I wanted to get to the front so that nobody escaped. I pushed very hard and in the end I started to suffer from the tyre wear. I gave my all, and at least we were fighting for the top positions again. I’m looking forward to the last race in Valencia and want to get a great result there.”
